PRESS RELEASE
On October 31, 2024, Rashawn Lamar Posey was found guilty of Attempted Second Degree Murder with a Firearm and Aggravated Assault by an Escambia County Jury. He was thereafter sentenced to Life in prison.
This stemmed from an incident on June 11, 2023, where two victims were speaking to two women outside of a food truck around the area of Jefferson Street and Palafox Street. Posey told the victims to leave, and they refused, continuing to speak to the women. Shortly after, Posey pulled a firearm from his waistband and fired a total of eight shots, four at each victim. One victim was not injured, the other victim was instantly paralyzed from the waist down. Posey fled the scene but was soon located by police. A surveillance video was taken from the scene and used as evidence in the trial.
Assistant State Attorney Samuel H. Edwards prosecuted this case on behalf of Ginger Bowden Madden, State Attorney for the First Judicial Circuit of Florida.
