State Attorney Ginger Bowden Madden announced that on July 16, 2026, a jury found 16-year-old Remington Crumbs guilty of Second Degree Murder with a Firearm. The Honorable Amy Brodersen presided over by the trial.
On March 14, 2024, Remington Crumbs shot and killed 15-year-old Demarco Banks in Gonzalez Court on North 9th Avenue. Crumbs claimed that he shot Banks in self-defense. Based on the evidence and testimony presented during the trial, the jury rejected that claim.
Demarco Banks and his friend Tristan McClain were at a friend’s residence in Gonzalez Court. They left their friend’s apartment to walk to Gerald Wilson’s apartment. As they were walking, two figures in dark clothing and ski masks approached McClain and Banks. The male figure, Remington Crumbs, asked their names. Tristan McClain responded, but Demarco Banks did not. McClain and Banks altered their path but continued to Gerald Wilson’s apartment. While in front of Gerald Wilson’s apartment, Crumbs approached again. He asked Demarco Banks about a prior altercation before shooting him. Demarco Banks was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
A status date regarding sentencing is scheduled for September 16, 2026, at 8:30. Crumbs faces up to life in state prison.
