Zirconium Dees Convicted of Attempted Second Degree Murder with Firearm – Assistant State Attorney, Ki Misora McInnis

August 13, 2025

PRESS RELEASE

State Attorney Ginger Bowden Madden announced that on August 12, 2025, thirty-seven-year-old Zirconium Dees was found guilty by a jury of Attempted Second Degree Murder with a Firearm under the Florida 10-20-Life statute. Sentencing is set for September 10, 2025 in front of Circuit Judge Amy Brodersen.

On May 6, 2024, at 2:41 a.m., officers responded to I Street after a 911 caller stated he heard shots fired and saw a person rummaging through a car outside of his house while someone was lying in the street. The first responding officers determined the victim had been shot in the head, and she was taken to the hospital for her life-threatening injuries.

Once out of her coma, the victim was able to tell law enforcement that she and the defendant had been at a downtown bar celebrating Cinco de Mayo on May 5, 2024, when the defendant was kicked out of the bar for fighting with other patrons. The victim drove the defendant home where over the course of several hours, the defendant continued to argue and fight with the victim. After the defendant took the victim’s keys to prevent her from leaving, the victim started to walk home. A few minutes later, the defendant approached the victim in her own car on I Street. When the defendant got out of the car to argue with the victim again, the victim ran to the driver’s seat and tried unsuccessfully to lock the doors. The defendant entered the front passenger seat of the car where the arguing continued. During the argument, the defendant pulled out a 380 Ruger handgun and held the firearm to the neck of the victim while asking the victim if she knew the defendant would shoot her. The victim responded that she did and tried to push the gun away from her. The defendant shot the victim in the back of the head. The defendant then removed the victim from the car and left her in the roadway to die while the defendant fled the scene.

The case was investigated by the Pensacola Police Department and Assistant State Attorney Ki Misora McInnis prosecuted the case at trial. For further information, please contact the State Attorney’s Office at 850-595-4200.
