The Office of State Attorney-First Judicial Circuit of Florida provides Assistant State Attorney opportunities to Florida Bar members in good standing who have demonstrated an interest in litigation and/or criminal law through course work and internships. Student Certified Legal Interns are authorized by the Florida Bar, Chapter 11 (Rules Governing the Law School Practice Program), to practice law under the supervision of a licensed attorney.

The Office of State Attorney-First Judicial Circuit of Florida provides Law Clerk opportunities to recent or future law school graduates. The qualification for this position is to be a graduate from an accredited law school who is preparing for and taking the Florida Bar for the first time. The annual salary for a Law Clerk position is $50,000.00.
The Office of State Attorney-First Judicial Circuit of Florida provides Graduate Certified Legal Intern opportunities to law school graduates who qualify for the Certified Legal Intern certification under Chapter 11. The qualifications for this certification include completing a law school practice program during law school, receiving a dean’s letter confirming graduation from an accredited law school and the completion of the law school practice program, and receiving the Florida Board of Bar Examiner’s Clearance letter. The annual salary for a Certified Legal Intern is $55,000.00.
If Law Clerks or Graduate Certified Legal Interns onboard with the Office of State Attorney prior to taking The Florida Bar exam, this office will award each new hire the thirty calendar days preceding the exam, which will include the day prior to the exam for travel, as paid leave. Then, three additional days of paid administrative leave will be provided for the two days needed to take the exam along with one day to travel back from the exam. While we are hopeful that new Law Clerks or Certified Legal Interns will remain with our office for many years, in exchange for this benefit, we will ask for an 18-month employment commitment following the passage of the Florida Bar. To be eligible for this program, new hires are required to onboard at least three weeks prior to starting the leave.
The typical job duties include processing mail, pulling court dockets, preparing and filing of court pleadings, speaking with involved parties, officers, and the general public, and the processing of case files before, during, and after prosecution.

This position is a liaison between the Assistant State Attorney and victims of crimes. The typical job duties include providing services to victims and support to secondary victims.

Sworn law enforcement officers who are responsible for the investigative and logistical support to Assistant State Attorneys in their preparation and prosecution of criminal cases. Additionally, these officers are involved in major case investigations, multiagency task forces and assist local law enforcement upon request.

Florida’s statewide retirement system is recognized as a national leader in helping employees prepare for a secure and successful retirement. The state’s employer contribution for support staff is 13.63% and 34.52% for Assistant State Attorneys. The required employee contribution is 3% of your monthly paycheck. New employees who have not previously participated in FRS can choose from two options: a defined benefit plan which vests after eight years of employment (like a traditional pension), or an investment plan which vests after one year (like a 401(k)). Retirement income is based on years of service and compensation. Qualifying longtime employees are also eligible for the popular Deferred Retirement Option Program, or DROP.
Annual Leave
As an employee, you earn accrued paid time off for vacation and personal use. Each month, you will earn 8 hours and 40 minutes of leave time. This rate increases to 10 hours after three years with us, 13 hours and 20 minutes at four years, and 16 hours and 40 minutes at 10 years. If you have worked for other State of Florida agencies, you’ll earn credit toward how much you accrue.
Sick Leave
Employees also earn accrued paid time off for your own illness, an immediate family member’s illness, or doctor’s appointments. You will accrue 8 hours and 40 minutes each month.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF)
As part of our team, you may qualify for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loans after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time for a qualifying employer.
