(Escambia County, Florida) On August 07, 2025, Walter Sarmiento Perdomo was sentenced to fifteen years state prison by the Honorable Judge John F. Simon for DUI Manslaughter. The Defendant must serve four years as a minimum mandatory sentence and the Defendant’s driving privileges were revoked for the rest of his life.
In July 2024, Florida Highway Patrol responded to a single vehicle crash on North Green Street in Escambia County, Florida. The Defendant ran off the road and struck a tree, seriously injuring the passenger. Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from the Defendant’s breath and found an open container of alcohol in the driver’s seat.
The Defendant was subsequently arrested and booked into the Escambia County Jail. The victim died four days later as a result of the injuries she sustained during the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol conducted a traffic homicide investigation revealing that the Defendant was driving at a minimum speed of fifty-four miles per hour, which is over twice the posted speed limit on that road. The toxicology report indicated that the Defendant had a blood alcohol concentration of .187. Florida Highway Patrol’s investigation also revealed that the Defendant did not possess a valid driver’s license.
