PRESS RELEASE:
Escambia County, Florida
On November 6, 2024, Circuit Court Judge Linda Nobles sentenced Edward Eugene Williams to serve 25 years of incarceration with the Florida Department of Corrections for Trafficking in Fentanyl and a mandatory $50,000 fine. Seven years of the sentence must be served day for day as a
statutory minimum mandatory.
On the morning of August 26, 2023, Mr. Williams was stopped by Deputies with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office for a broken headlight. Upon speaking with Mr. Williams, he appeared nervous and advised deputies that his license was suspended. A K9 was called to the scene and alerted to the
presence of narcotics in the vehicle. A subsequent search uncovered over 6 grams of fentanyl, a scale, multiple baggies, and pipes in a backpack on the front passenger floorboard. A receipt bearing the name “Edward Williams” was also located in the backpack.
The Escambia County jury deliberated for approximately one hour before finding the Defendant guilty as charged on all counts. Prosecuting attorney Christopher Patterson argued, “Fentanyl has wreaked havoc on our community and those who traffic in it must be held accountable.” The arrest and investigation were conducted by the Escambia County Sherriff’s Office. Assistant State Attorney Christopher Patterson prosecuted the case on behalf of Ginger Bowden Madden, State Attorney for the First Judicial Circuit of
Florida.
